Manhunt trailer: John Woo returns with a 90s throwback

It's been a few years since John Woo's last couple of films - The Crossing 1 & 2 - and after showing at last years TIFF and Venice Festival the trailer for his Netflix film, Manhunt, has just been released. In true Netflix style, it is released on the platform later this week, so most people will miss the tiny marketing given to the film and perhaps bump into it when flicking through the thousands of others. Reviews have been mixed about the film but as you'll see in the trailer for Manhunt above, it's very much in the vein of his over-the-top action films from the 90s.

This is a remake of a classic 1970s Japanese thriller, Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare, about an innocent man who sets out to clear his name after he is framed for robbery and rape. The script is based on Jukô Nishimura's book, Manhunt, which also served as the basis for the original.

Hanyu Zhang (The Great Wall), Masaharu Fukuyama (Like Father, Like Son), Stephy Qi and Jun Kunimura (Ichi the Killer) all star in the cast.

Manhunt lands somewhere on Netflix on May 4th 2018.
