Nicolas Cage mostly keeps churning out forgettable straight-to-VOD films nowadays but on the odd ocassion one or two stand out from the rest. His new film, Mandy, appears to be one of them. It's picked up rave reviews along the festival trail and a little like Mom and Dad it's another chance to see Cage off the hook in bonkers mode. Check out the first trailer for Mandy above to see what you think.

Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller (Cage) and Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough) lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache), Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.

Director Panos Cosmatos returns with his first film in 8 years since Beyond the Black Rainbow and the cast also features Bill Duke and Richard Brake.

Mandy gets a mid-September release in the US with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
