Major brands form alliance to boost fourth-quarter sales

A number of player manufacturers have announced their intention to give the DVD format another push towards mass-market acceptance. Sony, Sharp and Toshiba have set up an arrangement with Columbia Tristar, Buena Vista and Warner Vision International which will allow purchasers of players to receive three free DVDs.

The offer runs through the entire fourth-quarter of 2001 (1 October to 31 December). Customers will need to send off for the discs using a voucher supplied with their new player.

The titles buyers can choose from are:

101 Dalmations (Live-action)
Gone In 60 Seconds
Vertical Limit
The Corrs: Live at Lansdowne Road

This offer is NOT open to buyers of the Sony Playstation 2 and Sony VAIO products.
