Lynn Stopkewich’s Kissed in March
Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Kissed for 12th March 2007 priced at £19.99. As a young girl, the unassuming Sandra creates elaborate rituals for burying dead animals. Years later, that passion has transferred her skills into working a mortician. However, she finds herself developing a more physical bond with the corpses in her charge. So when she meets someone who wants to develop a relationship, but in order to understand her, he finds himself compelled to try and share her passions.
Lynn Stopkewich’s debut feature KISSED is a subversive but sympathetic study of a taboo subject, remaining non-judgmental about necrophilia and death. It’s an unconventional love story that also challenges our attitudes towards relationship, addressing what obsessions or addictions determine our sense of gratification. More subtle than outwardly shocking, it is an honest exploration of concerns with the body and mortality, themes frequently addressed in the films of fellow Canadian David Cronenberg.
DVD features are TBC.
