Pathé appear to have stooped to an all time low with their planned DVD release of National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. While the DVD itself is nothing more than mediocre, the film obviously attempts to redefine the meaning of the word 'funny' and fails miserably.
Loaded Weapon 1 stars Emilio Esteves (say no more), Samuel L Jackson (what made him do it?), Whoopi Goldberg (what made her do it?), William Shatner (well he has to do something post Star Trek) and Tim Curry (!). Even worse is the fact that all of these 'A grade' stars aren't the only people making a mockery of their careers - we have cameos by Bruce Willis, Denise Richards, Denis Leary, Corey Feldman, James Doohan and Charlie Sheen (some of whom obviously needed a career boost while others really didn't).
So, I think you probably get the message that I don't find Loaded Weapon 1 particularly amusing (maybe I missed the point? Although I must say the 'Basic Instinct' scene raised a slight smile). Unfortunately, not even the DVD from Pathé redeems the situation as it only features a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 2.0 sound. The retail price is £15.99 and the release date is 13 August.
