Lily Chou-Chou update and A Touch Of Zen details

Further to yesterdays (now updated) news piece on All About Lily Chou-Chou we have confirmed with Optimum Releasing the discs audio/video specs that will sadly see the film presented in Non-Anamorphic Widescreen (4:3 Letterbox) with Japanese Stereo sound and permanent (burned-in) subtitles. The reason given for these lacklustre specs lie with the source materials the UK licensor had for Optimum Releasing to work with.

Today we also received the specs for Optimum Releasing's Region 2 DVD release of the King Hu classic, A Touch of Zen, that will be available to buy from 28th July 2003 at a retail price of £19.99. Presented in Non-Anamorphic Widescreen (4:3 Letterbox) with permanent (burned-in) English Subtitles Optimum Releasing have told us they would have preferred to have offered an Anamorphic Widescreen version but were unable due to the source prints positioning of the subtitles. They are however pleased to offer the original, fully uncut edition using a master they believe to be the best available that has also been digitally restored so the film can look as good as possible.

The spoken language is Mandarin (with English subtitles) and the soundtrack is mono. The DVD features include notes on the film by director King Hu, extensive cast and crew biographies plus an Optimum trailer reel.
