Les Petites Vacances (R2) in March
Dogwoof Pictures have announced the UK DVD release of Les Petites Vacances on 10th March 2008. Manipulation, deception and betrayal are all the characteristics portrayed by Bernadette Lafont in her performance as a grandmother desperately avoiding the reality of her own mortality in Olivier Peyon’s Les Petites Vacances (Stolen Holidays).
The film starts with a very ordinary family arrangement - trusting grandchildren Marine and Thomas leave the family home with their grandmother, Danielle, during the Easter holidays. Retired schoolteacher Danielle soon seizes this opportunity, however, to spend a little more time with her beloved grandchildren and as they cross the Swiss border and sever all contact with the parents, Danielle’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and at times schizophrenic. As she painfully unravels, we gain an insight into her hopeless and desperate attempt to deter the aging process by basking in the youth of her grandchildren. With Marina and Thomas experiencing the first waves of adolescence and rebellion themselves, this very ordinary family trip soon turns into a compelling thriller.
