Kubrick Reissues In R1

According to a story in DVD File, Warner have begun the process of cleaning up the Stanley Kubrick titles that so disappointed some fans when they appeared in the box set last year. I imagine the great man will be spinning in his grave at the news that his estate is involved in preparing remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks for all the films. I can't say that this news fills me with joy, given the usual inadequacies of remixes from mono into 5.1, but a cleaned up print of "The Shining" especially would certainly be welcome. I do, however, hope that Kubrick's preferred aspect ratios are retained, especially for Barry Lyndon. A new Columbia edition of Dr Strangelove will be available this winter, and the remastered 2001 will, of course, be available on DVD after its cinema outing next year. The new Warner editions will be available in the spring.
