Justin Lin to direct Star Trek 3/13
Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is to pick up the mantle for the third/thirteenth Star Trek film following Robert Orci's recent departure from the directors chair.
Lin, who was previously scheduled to direct the Jeremy Renner Bourne Legacy sequel but this has now been postponed to make way for Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon's Bourne Identity sequel instead.
The first two films in the rebooted Star Trek universe were directed by J.J. Abrams who has been busy working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Orci was originally slated to write AND direct the third film but reports suggest that Paramount weren't keen on his script and wanted to do something a little more exciting for the science fiction franchise' 50th Anniversary in 2016. Other names that had been considered include Duncan Jones (Moon) although he quickly ruled himself out, Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish and Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt. Fans were also spearheading a campaign to get Jonathan Frakes to pick up the job.
