Jojo Rabbit trailer: Taika Waititi satirises the hell out of World War II
Taika Waititi is the current darling of the Marvel universe after revitalising Thor and is now set to direct the fourth film about the God of Thunder, along with Natalie Portman whose character gets a pretty big upgrade. It seems a world away from the small indies like Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople that brought him to everyone’s attention. Jojo Rabbit is a return to smaller filmmaking, although it has a bigger-named cast than anything he's done outside of Marvel. The film is set to make its premiere at TIFF in a couple of months but Waititi unexpectedly dropped a little footage online a short while ago. Get a first taster of Jojo Rabbit above.
A World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.
Waititi also wrote the script and stars as Adolf Hitler, with the cast starring Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson.
Jojo Rabbit is released October 18 in the US and January 3, 2020 in the UK.
