ITV DVD in October

ITV DVD have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of three titles for 16th October 2006…

Hornblower: The Complete Collection - £59.99 - Ioan Gruffudd stars as C.S. Forester’s famous maritime hero, Horatio Hornblower in this Emmy Award winning series. Featuring 8 stand-alone, 2 hour features Hornblower was produced by Andrew Benson and directed by Andrew Grieve.

Jesus of Nazareth - £24.99 - In response to huge public demand (so the press release says) ITV DVD will release for the first time in the UK the full un-edited, extended version of Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth as a special edition DVD. Packaged in steelbook packaging, this powerful epic stars Robert Powell as Jesus Christ with a supporting cast that includes Anne Bancroft, Ernest Borgnine, Claudia Cardinale, James Earl Jones, Stacy Keach, James Mason, Laurence Olivier, Michael York, Ian McShane, Peter Ustinov, Donald Pleasance, Ralph Richardson, Christopher Plummer and Anthony Quinn to name but a few.

This six hour, television mini series of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, based on the accounts given in the Christian gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, was produced by Lew Grade through his ITC Entertainment company. Directed by Franco Zeffirelli and written by Zeffirelli, Anthony Burgess and Suso Cecchi d’Amico, after Zefirrelli was approached by Pope Paul VI to make a film about Christ.

Oliver Twist - £19.99 - Robert Lindsay stars as Fagin, Julie Walters as Mrs. Mann and Keira Knightley as Rose Fleming in Alan Bleasdale’s original adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. This award-winning television dramatisation of Dicken’s novel attracted controversy when it was originally broadcast because of Bleasdale’s decision to being with two hours of back-story, much of it created by Bleasdale himself.
