Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans trailer: The hit TV show gets ready to invade your cinema
TV shows, magazines, toys, games, audio books, the Proms, books, exhibitions, theatre - even theme park rides - the Horrible Histories franchise has pretty much done it all. Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans is their second film after 2015's Bill, which riffed on a young Shakespeare. It actually began back in 1993 as a book series and has continued to grow in popularity ever since, going on to pick up BAFTAs and awards at Cannes along the way. Kids seem to love it and while they're not exactly educational (even the original author agrees) they are harmless, silly fun. Atti is a Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn. When one of his schemes falls foul of Emperor Nero Atti is forced to join the army and sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain. Things go from bad to worse when Atti is captured by Orla, a feisty teenage Celt desperate to prove herself as a warrior. Meanwhile a furious Nero is determined to crush the British rebellion, led by Boudicca. As the Romans prepare for an historic showdown with the Celts at the Battle of Watling Street the two new friends find themselves lined up on opposite sides of the battlefield.
Dominic Brigstocke (Green Wing, I'm Alan Partridge) directs, with the cast starring Kim Cattrall, Nick Frost, Emilia Jones, Kate Nash, Rupert Graves, Derek Jacobi, Lee Mack, Warwick Davis, Lucy Montgomery, Kevin Bishop, Sanjeev Bhaskar and many more.
Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans will invade UK cinemas on July 26.
