Get a first glimpse of Robert Pattinson as The Batman

One of the most hotly anticipated films of 2021 will be Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and while still a little vague at this stage, the director has offered fans a first glimpse of Robert Pattinson wearing the suit.

In the video below, composer Michael Giacchino’s score looms over a black screen that is slowly filled with red light as Robert Pattinson slowly comes into view. This will be a slimmer Batman compared to the bulked up Christian Bale and Ben Affleck versions we’ve seen over the past 15 years and it appears as if this iteration of the suit is heavily armoured. The cape and neckline look higher than previous versions, although the lighting is a little deceptive.

The reveal came about as part of a camera test and was shared on Twitter by Reeves. It’s still quite difficult to clearly make out the full details but even this short snapshot will definitely get fans chomping at the bit to see more.

The Batman is expected to take a more detective-driven perspective in the planned trilogy, with the cast now lined up and filming underway. Paul Dano will star as Edward Nashton, aka the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

The Batman will open in UK and US cinemas on June 25, 2021.
