As for the actual disc content? Well I'll let the PR explain this one...
A huge hit when staged in London's West End at the Prince of Wales theatre; this production of Fosse was filmed in front of an appreciative audience live on Broadway, New York.
The stage show Fosse - A Celebration of The Choreography of Bob Fosse, is a compilation of some of Fosse's most memorable dance routines from the musicals he was involved with. He put Dancin' up in lights, gave us Sweet Charity and made Chicago the most famous landmark in New York. His films, from Cabaret to All That Jazz were the last of the great movie musicals. With unbridled energy and a unique artistic gift, Fosse's influence on dance in the musical world is, with doubt, unchallenged by any other choreographer in the second half of the last century.
The signature Fosse style of dance swathed with sexual suggestiveness, the trademark cigarette, white gloves and black bowler hat, has inspired and entertained audiences across the world since The Pyjama Game '54.
A dancer, choreographer, director and legend, Bob Fosse earned praise from his industry contemporaries and continues to be celebrated today, with smash hits such as the Oscar winning movie Chicago.
Fosse protége Ann Reinking, Artistic Advisor Gwen Verdon, plus the legendary Ben Vereen are joined on stage by small groups of dancers, drilled down to the lift of an eyebrow, executing steps which are sometimes disjointed, sometimes tortuously slow. The rolling shoulders and snapping fingers, which are captured so well on this DVD/VHS, exemplify the classic attention to detail found in Fosse' choreography. Additionally Co-choreographer Ann Reinking and dancers Ben Vereen and Dana Moore talk about their unique relationships with Fosse and love of his work, in interviews on the DVD.
The timely release of Fosse - A Celebration of The Choreography of Bob Fosse, echoes the current trend for his work, due mainly to the success of Hollywood blockbuster, Chicago. Fosse' films, from Cabaret to All That Jazz were the last of the great movie musicals, and they too are enjoying a renaissance thanks to the Fosse revival. This DVD/VHS allows devotees of Fosse to enjoy his sexy style and unique vision time and time again. A compelling evenings' entertainment attributed to a man who embraced life and revolutionised the musical theatre.
