Final X-Men: Dark Phoenix trailer: Jean Grey shows off her dark powers

2019 is a big year for the end of huge franchises. The Skywalker saga is coming to close after 9 films and 42 years. Game of Thrones is now in its final season after 8 years and 80 episodes, and Avengers: Endgame is the end of 22 films spanning 11 years. Oh yes, and in case you've forgotten, the X-Men saga also comes to a close this summer with Dark Phoenix after 12 films and 19 years. Sophie Turner (who plays Jean Grey) popped up unexpectedly yesterday to announce a 'surprise' for fans and a final trailer for Dark Phoenix appears to be it. Check it out above to get a first look

The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.

With Jean spiralling our of control and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite - not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponise this force and rule the galaxy.

Simon Kinberg directs, with the cast starring Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Alexandra Shipp.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens in the UK on June 5th.
