Below is a round-up of UK releases for February that we’ve not yet covered on the site. Unless noted otherwise these are barebones and DVD only…

Anime this week – MVM have a few complete collection sets including Slayers Next, Rozen Maiden & Traumend, Paranoia Agent, Mahoromatic Something More Beautiful and Battle Vixens. Also out from MVM this week is Slayers Evolution – R: Season 4 Part 2 which comprises of the final 13 episodes from the fourth season of the 1990s Japanese anime series. Manga Entertainment have just the one release this week in the form of Hetalia Axis Powers – Complete Series 2 which includes audio commentaries on 4 episodes, plus some additional extras - Director Bob Shirahara Talks with Atsushi Kosaka (Prussia), Aki Kanada (Chibi Italy) & Daisuke Namikawa (Italy), Atsushi Kosaka (Prussia) Commemerates the Announcement of the Hetalia Movie & Textless Closing Song.
The Absence of Light - MVM
Combining elements of sci-fi and horror with the conventions of the conspiracy thriller, The Absence Of Light is the debut feature of Patrick Desmond and features several horror genre icons and fan favourites including Tom Savini, Michael Berryman, Tony Todd, David Hess and Caroline Munro.

Alien Vs Ninja - Revolver Entertainment
Written and directed by Seiji Chiba (Evil Ninja), featuring action choreography by Yuji Shimomura (Versus; Shinobi; Death Trance) and Kensuke Sonomura (The Machine Girl; Hard Revenge Milly: Bloody Battle) Alien Vs Ninja is described as “one insane, action-packed, martial arts-meets-sci-fi gore-fest that delivers everything its perfectly descriptive title promises.”

The Assassin Next Door - G2 Pictures
In an old apartment building on the wrong side of the tracks, Galia (Olga Kurylenko) and Eleanor (Ninet Tayeb), share two things: an adjoining wall and a need to escape. Galia is an assassin, forced against her will to kill for the Mafia. She longs for her freedom and to reunite with her young daughter, whom she left back in Russia. Eleanor is a grocery store cashier who dreams of winning the lottery and running away from her abusive husband. The two women unite to take action against their oppressors in an action-packed fight for survival and freedom.

French Film - Revolver Entertainment

Great British Railway Journeys - FremantleMedia Enterprizes
Michael Portillo takes to the tracks in the BBC documentary TV series. This four-disc collection features all 20 half-hour episodes from the first series.
Just Wright - Fox Home Entertainment
Queen Latifah and Common star in this rom-com directed by Sanaa Hamri. Extras include 2 featurettes, a gag reel and the trailer.
Kidnap and Ransom - FremantleMedia Enterprises
This three part ITV1 television crime thriller starring Trevor Eve was created by writer Patrick Harbinson and directed by Andy Wilson. The only extra is an interview with Trevor Eve.

Red & White- Kaleidoscope – DVD and Blu-ray

Upstairs Downstairs - 2Entertain

Ajami - Momentum Pictures
Set in Jaffa's Ajami neighbourhood, a town full of conflicting views among Jews, Muslims and Christians, Ajami pulls together five different stories all told by a non-professional acting cast. Ajami is written and directed by first time filmmaker Scandar Copti.
Arsenal & Zvenigora - Mr. Bongo Films
Following the success of the recent DVD release of Earth, Mr. Bongo Films will release Soviet director Alexander Dovzhenko's first two films of his loose trilogy Arsenal and Zvenigora.
Black - Anchor Bay Entertainment – DVD and Blu-ray
This French heist thriller starring French hip-hop artist MC Jean Gab’1 (the District 13 movies) is described as an “affectionate and worthy tribute to the Blaxploitation genre”. The only extra is the trailer.
Doctor Who: The Ark - 2Entertain
Featuring William Hartnell as the first Doctor, extras on this classic Who release include:

- Riverside Story (dur. 20’ 17”) – Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios played host to the creation of many Doctor Who stories in the sixties. Matthew Sweet takes actor Peter Purves back to the studio that once also contained the Celestial Toyroom, the Plains of Troy and the planet Refusis to talk about the creation of ‘The Ark’. Also featuring director Michael Imison.

Easier With Practice - Axiom Films

Out of the Ashes - Drakes Avenue Pictures
This feature-length documentary follows the Afghan cricket team in their quest against the odds to qualify for the World Cup. Alamar - New Wave Films
Mexican director Pedro Gonzales-Rubio’s first feature is given a barebones release. Synopsis: Jorge and Roberta have been separated for several years. They simply come from opposite worlds: he likes an uncomplicated life in the jungle, while she prefers a more urban existence. He is Mexican and she is Italian, and she has decided to return to Rome with their five-year-old son, Natan. Before they leave, Jorge wishes to take young Natan on a trip, hoping to teach him about his Mayan origins in Mexico. At first the boy is physically and emotionally uncomfortable with the whole affair, and gets seasick on the boat taking them to their destination. But as father and son spend more time together, Natan begins a learning experience that will remain with him forever.

Bedevilled - Optimum – DVD and Blu-ray
Jang Cheol-So directs this Korean revenge thriller. Ji Sung-Won stars as Hae-Won, a woman who goes back to her grandparents' home on a remote island after suffering a series of setbacks in her life. There she is reunited with her childhood friend Kok-Nam (Seo Yeong-Hee), whose problems make her own pale into insignificance. After enduring years of violence, degradation and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband and the other islanders, Kok-Nam appeals to Hae-Won to help her escape. When Hae-Won refuses, Kok-Nam finally reaches breaking point and goes on a bloodthirsty revenge rampage against those who have wronged her.

The Flying Scotsman - Optimum
Arguably the first full length British feature film to use sound (most likely this was added later, in 1930), The Flying Scotsman features daredevil stunts performed on the real eponymous locomotive (that serviced the London to Edinburgh route), and the screen debut of Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend, Dial M For Murder, Markham).
There are no extras, but the main feature has been digitally restored for this release.
The Hunter - Artificial Eye
This powerful thriller stars writer/director Rafi Pitts as Ali, a man whose world is shattered when his wife and young daughter go missing. In the face of police indifference to his plight, something snaps inside him and he shoots an officer dead with his hunting rifle and goes on the run. A searing indictment of political corruption, The Hunter is a tense and compelling film set against the background of social unrest in Iran.
Involuntary - Trinity
Ruben Ostlund writes and directs this Swedish comedy drama exploring the nature of group behaviour and peer pressure through various intertwining storylines. The disc includes 97mins of extras including the UK trailer, an original short (Autobiographical Scene Number 6882) & an unreleased feature film from the same director (Guitar Mongoloid).
Primal - Kaleidoscope – DVD and Blu-ray
In this horror a group of friends venture into the wilds of Australia to study an ancient rock painting, and come face to face with an ancient evil when one of them experiences a terrifying transformation.
Spooks Series 9 - Universal Playback
Filled with dramatic revelations and a host of new characters, Series 9 of this British television spy drama includes such extras as a feature on “The Cost of Being a Spy” and a look at “The Downfall of Lucas North”. You also get episode commentaries with Nicola Walker, Andrew Woodhead (Executive Producer), Sam Vincent, Jon Brackley and Anthony Neilson (Writer).

Travellers - High Fliers
Travellers is a British thriller that concerns a group of friends who leave London for a weekend in the country. The frivolity is over quickly when the group finds itself caught in a bloody war for survival against a group of violent gypsies.
The Two Ronnies Series 9 - 2Entertain
The dynamite pairing of the Two Ronnies is captured here in all its glory for this ninth series of the hugely popular sketch show. Originally broadcast in December and January of 1981/82 this DVD release features all seven episodes from the series and includes the Christmas Special.
Vampire Knight Volume 4 - Manga
At prestigious Cross Academy, there are two sessions of classes, the Day Class and the Night Class. As the school's Disciplinary Committee, Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu keep watch over the Day Class students, who are all infatuated with the beautiful, elite Night Class students.
