Falcons in January

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Fridrik Thor Fridriksson's Falcons for 24th January 2005 priced at £19.99. Keith Carradine plays Simon in this film about a world-weary ex-con who’s now contemplating suicide. Leaving America, he returns to Iceland, the country where his mother was born and meets Dua, a free-spirited young woman who could also be his daughter. He helps her out of a tricky situation and as their friendship develops, he agrees to help her smuggle a prize falcon to Hamburg. Once considered the most prized export of Vikings, they hope it will resolve their problems by selling it to a wealthy Arab but there are unexpected dangers. A subtle tale of responsibility and the search for freedom.

Director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson has won international acclaim with Cold Fever, Devil’s Island and the Oscar-nominated Children of Nature. Having founded Iceland’s first film journal, his film work have shown a passion for his country in his use of landscapes and location. Seasoned character actor Keith Carradine (McCabe and Mrs Miller; Nashville) adds power and pathos to world-weary Simon. Fridriksson’s subtle drama is a contemporary visual poem that echoes traditional Icelandic folklore.

Presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 & 5.1 Surround and DTS 5.1 Surround, DVD extras include trailer and film notes by Chris Roberts.
