Erik the Viking "Director’s Son’s Cut" (R1) in December

MGM Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Erik the Viking (Director’s Son’s Cut) on 4th December 2007 priced at $19.98 SRP. The witty, pythonesque satire of Viking life based on Norse mythology was adapted from the children’s fantasy book, The Saga of Erik the Viking, and directed by Terry Jones for his son. According to Jones, "When the film came out in 1989 I was not happy at all with it. With the Monty Python movies I'd been a hands-on editor, yet with Erik The Viking I didn't get involved in the process until too late. I've always thought there was a better film in there, waiting to get out, and this new version is it!" The new version has been edited and re-cut to 75 minutes by Jones’ son with re-ordered scenes, a tighter pace and a remixed and re-dubbed soundtrack.

Features include:

  • 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English DD5.1 Surround
  • French Mono
  • English, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Commentary with Director Terry Jones
  • Behind the Director’s Son’s Cut
  • 1989 “Making of” featurette
