Easy Riders, Raging Bulls from Metrodome
Metrodome have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Easy Riders, Raging Bulls for 17th November 2003 with a retail price of £19.99. Kenneth Bowser's revealing documentary is based on Peter Biskind's controversial best-selling book of the same name and chronicles the secret history of what was arguably the most creative (and certainly the most turbulent) decade in Hollywood's history. Covering a period that began with Dennis Hopper's groundbreaking 1969 film Easy Rider and ended with Martin Scorsese's devastatingly brilliant Raging Bull, Bowser's documentary tells the inside story of an astonishing era fuelled by sex, drugs, fame and money.
As far as the movie industry was concerned, the 1970s belonged to a generation of filmmakers – including Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Brian De Palma, Roman Polanski, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert Altman, William Friedkin and Dennis Hopper – directors who turned Hollywood on its head with a succession of unforgettable classics; films such as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Jaws, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, American Graffiti, Star Wars, Obsession, Carrie, Chinatown, The Last Picture Show, M*A*S*H, Nashville, The French Connection and The Exorcist.
Through a series of interviews with many of the creative personnel who were at the forefront of this astonishing cinematic revolution, EASY RIDERS, RAGING BULLS candidly reveals how an industry in decline was saved by a generation of young mavericks who took control of Hollywood and found success by breaking all the rules. Narrated by William H. Macy (Fargo; Boogie Nights; Magnolia), among the many interviewees are Richard Dreyfuss, John Milius, Peter Bogdanovich, Roger Corman, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Kris Kristofferson, Margot Kidder and Paul Schrader. Illustrated by numerous excerpts from the relevant movies, the film also features rare, behind-the-scenes footage of luminaries such as Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Dennis Hopper, Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski and others.
Co-produced by the BBC, EASY RIDERS, RAGING BULLS is a timely reminder of how great Hollywood was in that golden era before weekend box office grosses became the only thing that mattered. Not yet available in the US, the film will premiere on DVD in the UK in November. A perfect companion to Biskind's book, which has remained on the bestsellers list since its first publication in 1998, EASY RIDERS, RAGING BULLS is an essential, must-see DVD for all self-respecting film lovers.
Special Features on the disc include over 100 minutes of bonus footage, including an interview with the book's author Peter Biskind, who has also written the sleevenotes for this DVD release.
