Dreamworks are in!
The last big studio has finally commited themselves to Region 2 DVD. Universal Pictures UK have announced their intention to start distributing Dreamworks titles starting on 27 November. The initial batch of titles will include American Beauty, The Haunting and Deep Impact...
Other titles planned for release in the coming months include Antz, The Road to Eldorado and The Prince of Egypt.
Eddie Cunningham, Chairman of Universal Pictures UK said:
"We are absolutely delighted to have secured the rights to distribute Dreamworks' DVD repertoire in the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for UPUK to develop our successful working relationship with Dreamworks Home Entertainment and is a recognition of the major successes we have had in the past year with the distribution of the Dreamworks' VHS repertoire locally. With the imminent release of such box office smashes as American Beauty and The Haunting on DVD, this is an exciting opportunity for us build on our past successes and capitalise on this growing market."Details on the discs are currently sketchy and it's unknown whether Dreamworks' commitment to DTS will be transferred to their Region 2 releases - every US Dreamworks title released so far has come in both DTS and Dolby Digital incarnations so there's a chance.
Apologies to everyone about the rumour last week claiming a April 2001 launch - obviously it was wrong!
