Doctor Who: The Hand of Fear in July

BBC Worldwide have confirmed the next title to be released in their "Classic Who" range after Inferno will be the 1976 Tom Baker story The Hand of Fear. A four-parter from the show's fourteenth season, the story was the last starring Liz Sladen as fan favourite companion Sarah Jane Smith (who recently returned in the episode School Reunion) and sees her and the Doctor facing off against the tricksy Eldrad.

As ever, the release will feature a whole host of extras from the ever-resourceful Restoration Team, namely:

  • Commentary by Tom Baker (the Doctor), Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), Judith Paris (Eldrad), Bob Baker (Co-writer), Philip Hinchcliffe (Producer).

  • Changing Times: A 50-minute documentary charting the special relationship between the Doctor and his companion Sarah Jane Smith.

  • Swap Shop: A very rare clip of Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen's appearance on the first ever edition of Noel Edmonds' Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, shown in October 1976.

  • PDFs of the 1977 Doctor Who Annual and the Radio Times listings for The Hand of Fear.

  • Photo gallery, continuity announcements, information text subtitles and an Easter Egg.

  • The single-disk DVD is currently due for release on 24th July, although this could change, and will retail for the usual £19.99. For more information, check out the Restoration Team's homepage.

In addition, although nothing has been confirmed yet, it's looking increasingly likely the release following this one will be the Colin Baker story The Mark of the Rani in September.
