Darth Vader to have a significant role in Rogue One
Spoilers to follow...
Rumours over at the reliable Making Star Wars have added weight to previous hints that Darth Vader will have a role to play in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to the report, Disney and Lucasfilm have put together a 'Darth Vader Dream Team' to create a replica of Vader's Star Wars outfit in as much detail as possible and word is they've done an amazing job. Previously it was thought Vader might make an appearance as a hologram or in a very minor part, but new information suggests that Rogue One will feature ex-Skywalker more prominently and that the film will segue almost directly into the moments when Vader, in pursuit of the stolen Death Star plans, steps aboard Tantive IV at the beginning of Episode IV.
The report also suggests that James Earl Jones is back to voice Vader; a role he most recently filled in Star Wars: Rebels but Hayden Christensen won't be back inside the suit; instead a brand new actor will be recruited to fill the role.
Other rumours suggest that the actor to play Han Solo in the spin-off being developed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller will have a part to play in the events of Rogue One and that young solo will appear in something of a cameo before leading the charge in his own film. A possible shortlist of actors was unveiled last week but fans are clamouring for the unlisted Anthony Ingruber to be cast given his previous performance as a young Harrison Ford in The Age of Adaline.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in UK cinemas on 16th December 2016. It stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. It is directed by Gareth Edwards based on a story by Gary Whitta, Chris Weitz and John Knoll.
