Crazy Rich Asians trailer: Constance Wu discovers her boyfriend's big secret

Warner Bros. have just released the first trailer for Crazy Rich Asians, an adaptation of Kevin Kwan's novel of the same name. It's all-Asian cast starring in this summer rom-com featuring Constance Wu in the lead role as she battles to overcome her man's disapproving parents. The trailer is hardly full of killer jokes but maybe the film will land a few more laughs. Check out the trailer for Crazy Rich Asians above to see what you think.

The story follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Wu) as she accompanies her long-time boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore.  Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life.

It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors.  Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh) taking aim.  And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.

Jon M. Chu directs with Gemma Chan,  Awkwafina and Ken Jeong also starring.

Crazy Rich Asians comes to UK cinemas on August 17th 2018.
