Coppola in talks to direct 'The Little Mermaid'

Academy-award winning director Sofia Coppola is reportedly in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Little Mermaid.

Coppola, who won the Best Original Oscar for her 2003 film Lost in Translation, is in negotiations in directing the film with Universal with Working Title producing the film.

The script will be written by Caroline Thompson, who wrote the screenplay for Edward Scissorhands and produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
