Columbus trailer: John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson find meaning in the city around them
It's taken some time for Columbus to reach these shores but the good news is it will be getting a small release in 6 weeks time. Director Kogonada had already developed quite the reputation for his video essays over the past few years and his quietly powerful debut film matches up to expectation. It once again showcases the talent of John Cho shortly after Searching, while Haley Lu Richardson also announces herself in a big way. Watch the trailer above for Columbus which will give you a good feel for the film.
When a renowned architecture scholar falls suddenly ill during a speaking tour, his son Jin (John Cho) finds himself stranded in Columbus, Indiana - a small Midwestern city celebrated for its many significant modernist buildings. Jin strikes up a friendship with Casey (Haley Lu Richardson), a young architecture enthusiast who works at the local library. As their friendship develops, Jin and Casey explore both the town and their conflicted emotions: Jin's estranged relationship with his father, and Casey's reluctance to leave Columbus and her mother.
Kogonada also wrote the script, with the supporting cast also featuring Parker Posey, Michelle Forbes and Rory Culkin (Macaulay's brother).
Columbus opens in the UK on October 5th 2018.
