Cine-Excess V & MCM Expo this week

If you like cult film, anime, comics, sci-fi and such and are in London later this week then you have two events to pick from. Taking place Thursday, 26th May to Saturday, 28th May is Cine-Excess V, the annual International Conference on Global Cult Film which boasts Guests of Honour, Italian acting legend Franco Nero (Django; Keoma; Die Hard 2) and controversial cult director Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust; The House On The Edge Of The Park).

Organised by Brunel University in London, Cine-Excess brings together global cult film icons with international scholars in an event that features international filmmaker discussions, a three-day academic conference and UK theatrical premieres and exclusive screenings. This year includes a screening of Deodato’s controversial classic Cannibal Holocaust (courtesy of Shameless Screen Entertainment, this is a new edit which minimizes the animal killing and cruelty scenes without actually making the film shorter) with a Q&A with the director, plus screenings of Elio Petri’s rarely seen and disturbing avant-garde horror movie A Quiet Place In The Country (courtesy of Park Circus and introduced by star Nero), Django (courtesy of Argent Films and including a Q&A with Nero) and Live Like A Cop, Die Like A Man (including a Q&A with Deodato).

If you prefer anime, comics and sci-fi then the London Comic Con MCM Expo is taking place Friday, 27th May to Sunday, 29th May. It features numerous guests and events, and one attendee is Manga Entertainment who are celebrating their 20th anniversary with two stands at the event, voice actor guest appearances, a Cosplay Photo booth, and lots of special offers on their DVD and Blu-ray releases (highlights include DVD’s such as Ghost In The Shell for only £1 and Blu-rays like Blood The Last Vampire and Dead Space Aftermath for only £5. Full Metal Alchemist V1 and V2 Blu-ray sets for £10 each, plus some bundle deals available including D Gray-Man Part 1-4 DVDs for only £10, Claymore Parts 1-4 DVDs for only £10, and Ah My Goddess Series 2 DVD bundle for only £12.)
