Charm City Kings trailer: Meek Mill stars in a drama co-written by Barry Jenkins

Documentary fans may recall the excellent 12 O'Clock Boys from 2014, directed by Lotfy Nathan. Charm City Kings is adapted from that same documentary, with the story co-written by Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. The film has also been produced by Overbrook Entertainment which is run by Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter, so there are plenty of heavy-hitters working in the background on this one. The documentary put the spotlight on the little known culture of urban dirt bike riding in Baltimore and this version will look to put a more dramatic spin on things. Watch the trailer for Charm City Kings above.

Growing up in West Baltimore, teenage Mouse feels the fierce pull of different forces: Between notorious ex-con Blax and concerned Detective Rivers, and between the straight path set for Mouse by his concerned mother and the dangers of gang life, which took his brother’s life. The one truth Mouse knows is that he loves the power, artistry, and energy of “The Ride” — the exhilarating motorized-dirt-bike scene that is both a pastime and passion on the streets of Baltimore. During one eventful summer, Mouse has to steer his way through two father figures, a first girlfriend, and the illegal but irresistible thrill of stunt-riding that makes him and his friends feel like Charm City Kings.

Angel Manuel Soto directs his debut feature, with the cast starring Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Meek Mill, William Catlett and Teyonah Parris.

Charm City Kings arrives in US cinemas on April 10. No date has been set for a UK release just yet.
