Carnages in March

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Carnages for 28th March 2005 priced at £19.99. A young matador is injured in the bullring and the bull is subsequently killed. Overnight, it is butchered and its body parts are sent to various destinations throughout Europe. In life and death, the magnificent creature is set to affect everyone differently who comes in contact with it.

A couple buy one of the bull’s bones which their little girl feeds to their pet Great Dane. Elsewhere, a philandering scientist and his pregnant wife are given the bull’s eyes, whilst a taxidermist receives the horns as a gift from his elderly mother. Further a field, a Spanish woman dines on Toro en Rioja in a restaurant. And each person’s life is changed in the process.

Delphine Gleize’s award-winning debut feature effortlessly weaves these disparate stories together with elegance, humour and a remarkable visual command. It features Chiara Mastroianni, daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni and Angela Molina (That Obscure Object of Desire, Live Flesh). Gleize has created a fresh take on one of the recurring obsessions of modern life: whether beneath the spontaneity and chaos of our lives, there is some guiding force that connects us all.

Presented in anamorphic widescreen with DD5.1 & DTS 5.1 Surround, extras include: collection of director’s short films; trailer; DVD notes by Demetrios Matheou.
