Capturing The Friedmans in July
Tartan Video have announced the UK Special Collector's Two-disc Edition DVD release of Capturing The Friedmans for 26th July 2004 with a retail price of £19.99. The Friedmans are a respectable, middle-class Long Island family, seemingly addicted to recording their daily lives – first on super-8, then on video. But their world crumbles when the father, a popular teacher, is accused, along with the youngest of his three sons, of molesting schoolchildren. Unbelievably, the arrest, trial and its horrifying aftermath are all chronicled in the family’s own home movies, revealing a tangle of contradictions and their comfortable world slowly disintegrates around them. The resulting story will haunt you long after the end-credits roll.
The very nature of Capturing the Friedmans has meant that the disc includes some very special features. There is an exclusive UK interview with Andrew Jarecki, alongside a US interview. Unseen home videos of the Friedmans are included alongside a short film on Jesse Friedman’s life today and the original film about New York party clowns which led to discovering David Friedman’s family secret.
The disc also includes footage of an altercation with law enforcement officers at film’s premiere along with a heated debate between audience and members of the family with many documents accessible via special DVD-Rom contents.
Nominated for the best documentary Oscar, the intriguing story of the Friedmans continues to develop and compelling new evidence, witnesses and uncut footage of the prosecution’s star witness are all presented on this two-disc edition. It’s time to find out who you believe now.
Presented in anamorphic widescreen with a choice of DD5.1 & DTS 5.1 Surround.
