Captain Phillips writer for Ballad of Richard Jewell

Screenwriter Billy Ray, best known for his work on Academy Award nominee Captain Phillips, is lined up as screenwriter for The Ballad of Richard Jewell, a drama based on the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bombing.

The film, set to reunite Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, got the go-ahead after Fox acquired the rights to Marie Brenner's 1997 Vanity Fair article of the same name.

The Ballad of Richard Jewell will be Ray's third film inspired by real-life events; in addition to Captain Phillips, he also wrote and directed Shattered Glass, starring Hayden Christensen as disgraced journalist Stephen Glass.

Start of production to be confirmed - more news as it happens.
