Can You Ever Forgive Me? trailer: Melissa McCarthy is up to no good

Currently Melissa McCarthy is trying to avoid the rotten apples being thrown over her latest  comedy vehicle, The Happytime Murders. Many of her recent releases haven’t exactly gone down too well at the box office or with the critics. Can You Ever Forgive Me? sees her try a new tact taking on a more dramatic role. Comedians generally tend to cross over well into drama due to their understanding of timing, so this could be an interesting watch. Can Your Ever Forgive Me? will be playing at this year’s London Film Festival and you can watch the trailer above right now.

This is based on the true story of best-selling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (McCarthy) who made her living in the 1970’s and 80’s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee is no longer able to get published because she has fallen out of step with current tastes, she turns her art form to deception, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant).

Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) is directing with the supporting cast featuring Jane Curtin, Dolly Wells, Ben Falcone and Stephen Spinella.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? opens in UK cinemas on 1st February 2019.
