Black & White in June
Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Black & White for 28th June 2004. A compelling real-life Australian drama about one man’s conviction that changed a nation. Black & White tells of the 1958 landmark Max Stuart case, the Aborigine accused of murdering a nine-year old girl, that irrevocably changed police procedure and judicial authority. With no Court of Appeal in the country and a legal establishment riddled with institutional racism and intimidation, the gifted young defence team’s fight takes them all the way to the Privy Council in London. Their actions initiated reforms which led to the setting up of an Australian Court of Appeal.
Directed by Craig Lahiff, the award-winning Black & White stars Robert Carlyle and Kerry Fox as two idealistic lawyers, who take on the might of a rigidly conservative establishment in a dramatic case which, amidst an air of outrage, was championed by a rising press mogul called Rupert Murdoch. A sobering tale of injustice and human rights abuse which still has a powerful relevance today.
DVD extras include: interview with director; Survival charity promotional reel; scene selection; biographies.
Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround.
