Birds of Prey trailer: Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn
One of the very few good things that came out of the 2016 Suicide Squad was Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, although the character was hampered by her heavily sexualised appearance that turned her into a nerd-boy fantasy. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) intends to establish the character on her own two feet, and even though taking place in a completely different universe, it's ironic that we are also getting a standalone Joker film only a few months apart. As long as this can avoid the same dreary social commentary surrounding the Todd Philips' drama, then we might just about cope (you can read our review here). The film is still just over 4 months away, but here is the first trailer for Birds of Prey.
Since the events of Suicide Squad, Batman has disappeared, leaving Gotham City unprotected from crime, and Harley Quinn has left the Joker. When Cassandra Cain, a young girl, comes across a diamond belonging to crime lord Black Mask, Harley joins forces with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to help protect her.
Cathy Yan directs (who made her debut with the little seen Dead Pigs) with Margot Robbie leading a supporting cast starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, and Ewan McGregor.
Birds of Prey flies into US and UK cinemas on February 7, 2020.
