BFI DVD in July

BFI have announced the UK DVD release of two titles on 19th July 2010…

COI Collection Volume 3 – They Stand Ready is the third release in the BFI’s DVD series of historical films made by the Central Office of Information. To help paint a positive picture of life in the Services, the COI produced morale-boosting documentaries, propaganda items and numerous recruitment films which placed emphasis on escaping the hum-drum of daily life. Join the Services, they say, and a world of opportunity awaits you!

Features include:

  • 1.33:1 / Mono (320kbps) / English HOH subtitles
  • Egypt Today: The Anglo-French Aggression Against Egypt (1956), a very different story is told in this Egyptian response to British Suez propaganda
  • Illustrated booklet with comprehensive contextualising film notes and essays

Secrets of Nature is a DVD collection of 19 British films from 1922 - 1933 that used groundbreaking techniques to share the secrets of the natural world with cinema audiences. Features include:
  • 1.33:1 / Mono (320kbps)
  • All films have been digitally re-mastered
  • Percy Smith with Herons (1921), an extract from the Urban Movie Chats series: one of nature filmmaking’s pioneers in the role of adoptive father
  • 38-page illustrated booklet featuring newly commissioned essays by leading researchers and scholars including the Science Museum's Tim Boon, film notes, photographs and illustrations
