Berlin Alexanderplatz in October

Second Sight have announced the UK DVD release of Fassbinder’s 15 ½ hour epic Berlin Alexanderplatz on 22nd October 2007 priced at £54.99. A monument of late 20th century filmmaking and what is considered to be the director’s masterpiece, Fassbinder’s Berlin Alexanderplatz is now coming to UK DVD for the first time following a massive restoration project overseen by the original editor.

Frank Biberkopf (Gunter Lemprecht) is an unforgettable man: his tender, good-natured side contradicted by moments of shocking violence. Released from prison following a four-year sentence for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, he plans to make a new start and a decent life for himself. But a chaotic, decadent Berlin of the 1920s is not the easiest place for an ex-con to go straight and work is hard to come by. When Franz becomes involved with Reinhold (Gottfried John), a womanising, psychotic small-time crook, he is soon drawn back into a world he cannot escape.

The 15 ½ hour epic is spread across six-discs and comes with 160mins of special features: Making of, A Mega-Movie and Its Story, The Restoration – Before and After, Stills and Production Photo Galleries, The Original Recaps, Berlinale 2007 Trailer.
