Twentieth Century Fox have announced the Region 2 retail release of Bedazzled on 22 October. This recent remake of the Dudley Moore/Peter Cooke classic looses pretty much all of the charm of the original film. Starring Brendan Fraser as the 'loser' that makes a pact with the devil, played (perhaps played is too strong a word) by Elizabeth Hurley.

The DVD goes some way to making up for the films weaknesses with a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digial 5.1 sound amd quite an array of special features (which actually push the disc up to a 15 rating):

  • 15 minutes of never-before-seen footage
  • Director's commentary
  • Commentary by Elizabeth Hurley and Trevor Albert
  • Making-of featurette
  • 'Bedazzling Designs with Geena Appel'
  • Behind-the-scenes of the scoring session
  • Trailers and TV spots
  • Production and set decoration stills gallery
The Region 1 disc had the distinction of being the first 'NUON' enabled release, it doesn't look like the Region 2 will be - but then again I'm pretty sure that there aren't any NUON compatible players in the UK and it's unlikely that there ever will be.

Bedazzled will retail for £19.99 - look out for our full review of the Region 2 disc next week.
