Assassination Nation red band trailer: A bloodbath coming soon to a cinema near you
Assassination Nation has a lot of The Purge about it, purposely highlighting potential areas of offence as part of its promotional campaign. It's probably no coincidence that the film takes place in Salem, home of the famous 17th century witch trials, so we shouldn't expect a subtle approach to the story. The film has had mixed reviews since appearing at Sundance at the start of the year but you can check out the trailer for Assassination Nation right now.
When an anonymous hacker exposes the secrets of the residents of Salem, Mass., four high school girls are out for revenge. The trailer also promises us almost every possible social media trigger point: Bullying, blood, abuse, classism, death, drinking, drug use, sexual content, toxic masculinity, homophobia, transphobia, guns, nationalism, racism, kidnapping, murder, the male gaze, sexism, swearing, torture, violence, gore, weapons, fragile male egos and, erm, giant frogs.
Sam Levinson writes and directs with the film starring Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra, Anika Noni Rose, Maude Apatow, Bill Skarsgård, Joel McHale and Bella Thorne.
Assassination Nation blasts into UK cinemas on November 23rd 2018.
