Animals trailer: Holliday Grainger and Alia Shawkat are struggling to grow up

Australian director Sophie Hyde's Animals is currently set to make its UK debut during the Sundance London festival this week (we will have a review in the next couple of days). It's an adaptation of author Emma Jane Unsworth's 2014 book of the same name, led by two fantastic performances from Holliday Grainger (who delivers a spot-on Irish accent) and Alia Shawkat. It first appeared at Sundance in Utah at the start of the year and will be appearing in UK cinemas in a couple of months. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Animals above to see more.

Best friends Laura, a struggling writer working as a barista, and her best friend and flatmate Tyler, an American woman who is estranged from her family, are both heavy partyers living in Dublin. The early part of the film shows their close friendship in their late twenties as they consume large quantities of wine and drugs through the night, sometimes engaging in casual sex with a man but mostly just enjoying each other's company.

With Hyde directing, author Emma Jane Unsworth also wrote the screenplay for the adaptation of her own book, with Fra Fee, Dermot Murphy and Amy Molloy also in the cast.

Animals opens in UK cinemas on August 2, with a US date still to be announced.
