A Tale Of Two Sisters 2-Disc SE in November

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Kim Jee-Woon’s psychological thriller A Tale of Two Sisters for 22nd November 2004 priced at £19.99. Already earmarked for a Hollywood remake, the atmospheric A Tale Of Two Sisters was Korea’s third highest grossing movie of 2003, but it has also chilled audiences worldwide. Now it’s set to bring a new twist to your nightmares in this special two-disc box-set which includes almost three hours of extra material.

After convalescing in hospital, two sisters return home to their father and stepmother. Su-mi is the older sister and she’s prepared to speak her mind. Su-yeon, however is more wary and still haunted by bad memories of the place, she becomes an easy target for her stepmother’s bullying. But then there are the strange things that start happening in the house. Is this their stepmother trying to torment them or is there something more sinister hiding in the shadows?

Director Kim Jee-woon also made the black comedy The Quiet Family which inspired Miike Takashi’s Happiness of the Katakuris but he is a master of suspense too. Flashbacks and dream sequences in A Tale Of Two Sisters add to the claustrophobia and air of menace that permeates the house and film, creating a sense of mounting horror which echoes the best of De Palma.

In this two-disc presentation, the film’s history is revealed in commentaries by the director, the two actresses who play the sisters and many of the people involved in the making of the film. There’s also behind the scene documentaries and on-set interviews, along with a psychological perspective on events and a couple of Easter eggs. In addition, there’s an interview with Kim Jee-woon by Billy Chainsaw which is exclusive to Tartan’s UK edition.
