4 Westerns including Wyatt Earp in July
Warner Home Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of four classic westerns on 19th July 2004 retailing at £12.99 each. Among these new DVD releases are two classic performances from either end of the career of the greatest cowboy of them all: John Wayne. Whether he's showing his youthful, sensitive side in Three Godfathers or playing a veteran rancher too old to drive his cattle in The Cowboys, there's only one Duke. Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman, two stalwarts of the modern day Western, give stellar performances in Wyatt Earp, while Sean Connery makes a rare appearance on the ol' frontier in Shalako.
Wyatt Earp (1994) - Kevin Costner plays Wyatt Earp, the most famous lawman ever to stride the Wild West. In a gritty, complex performance Academy Award winner Costner plays the man who became a myth in acclaimed director Lawrence Kasdan's epic, action-packed saga. Gene Hackman, an Oscar winner for Unforgiven, plays Earp's iron-willed father and Dennis Quaid produces a powerful performance as Earp's friend Doc Holiday. From Wichita and Dodge City to the OK Corral and Dodge City, this is a thrilling journey of romance, adventure and desperate heroic action.

The Cowboys (1972) - After his cattle drivers abandon him to take part in the goldrush, veteran rancher Wil Andersen (John Wayne) risks everything when he has to recruit young boys to man a dangerous cattle drive. If they fail he faces financial ruin, but with no experience and a gang of cattle thieves on their trail, will the boys return empty handed - or return as cowboys? Also stars Bruce Dern and Colleen Dewhurst. This version, never before released in the UK, includes the previously cut scene where Wayne is shot in the stomach.

Shalako (1968) - Sean Connery stars as the mysterious wanderer Shalako, who comes to the rescue of a party of Europeans after they become lost on an Apache reservation while out on a hunting trip. The group, including Honor Blackman and Brigette Bardot, must learn to trust Shalako as they work together to fight off the flaming arrows of the angry Apaches in their bid to reach safety.

Three Godfathers (1948) - Three bandits - John Wayne, Pedro Armendariz and Harry Carey Jr - are escaping from the law when they come across a dying mother and her child. Despite being pursued across the desert the outlaws take it upon themselves to carry the child to the safety of the next town - but not all of them will make it alive.
