2 films by Maurice Pialat (MOC) in August

Eureka Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of two films by French director Maurice Pialat as part of their Masters of Cinema Series on 24th August 2009. Passe ton bac d’abord [Graduate First…/ Pass Your Bac First…] is a portrait of teenage life in the suburbs of France and also the spiritual successor to the filmmaker’s feature-debut L’Enfance-nue picking up from a vantage ten years on from the lives of the earlier film’s protagonists. Nous ne Vieillirons Pas Ensemble [We Won’t Grow Old Together] is the director’s second feature based on a novel that he wrote about the trauma of his own personal life in the years leading up to the film.

  • An 11-minute, 2003 video interview with Pialat collaborator’s Arlette Langmann and Patrick Grandperret, conducted by Serge Toubiana (former editori-in-chief of Cahiers du cinema and director of the Cinematheque Francaise)
  • Apres le bac [After the Bac] -- a 26-minute, 2003 documentary featurette by Serge Toubiana and Sonia Buchman that catches up with the case and setting of the film in the present era
  • Original trailer for the film, and trailers for six other Maurice Pialat features available from The Masters of Cinema Series
  • A lengthy booklet with a new essay by filmmaker and educator Jean-Pierre Gorin, and newly translated interviews with Maurice Pialat

Nous ne Vieillirons Pas Ensemble
  • La Camargue (1966) – A short 6-minute essay-documentary by Maurice Pialat on the region in which much of the action of Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble unfolds
  • A 19-minute 2003 interview with star Marlene Jobert about the film, conducted by Serge Toubiana
  • A 5-minute excerpt from the 1972 ”Pour le cinema: Special Cannes”, featuring interviews with Jean Yanne and Maurice Pialat, both at Cannes, and two scenes deleted from the final film
  • An 8-minute excerpt from the 1972 program ”Vive le cinema”, featuring Francois Truffaut in conversation about both Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble and Pialat’s earlier L’Enfance-nue, and including two unedited printed takes from the main feature
