The Short Fix #4 - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Prequel Shorts

I'm doing this piece a little later than planned due to preparations being made for London Film and Comic Con taking precedence. However because of that I discovered these three wonderful short films that act as prequels to the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

These films chart the 10 years that separate the first movie and the sequel from the view of 3 separate stories:

1) Spread of Simian Flu: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 1)
2) Struggling to Survive: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 5)
3) Story of the Gun: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 10)

Each short has a unique style that feels different from the others but still gives a similar feeling to that of the source material. My favourite has to be the final one which follows the story of a shotgun. It is a series of mini stories that are all connected by this gun.

All the shorts leave a lot to the imagination which makes them truly captivating as all you want is to see the apes but instead get these rich mini stories with mentions of the apes. This I suppose ties in with the idea of the sequel (or what I gather the idea is) where in the apes have all but vanished from view of the humans. Hiding, biding their time.

The final short could easily happen at the same time as the sequel I believe from the trailers I've seen but I will have to wait and see to confirm this. I highly doubt the characters from the shorts will feature in the film but it would be cool if they all tied together.

Have a look at them below and let me know what you think.
