What follows are the epsode synopsis taken from the press release...
From the acclaimed franchise watched by over 20 million weekly viewers comes Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Focusing on the NYPD’s Major Case squad, the series stars Vincent D’Onofrio (Men in Black) as Detective Robert Goren, a brilliant and exceptionally dedicated homicide investigator bent on putting the baddest of the bad behind bars. Partnered with the equally talented Det. Alexandra James (Kathryn Erbe, OZ) the pair ably tackles the toughest assignments their commanding officer, Capt. James Deakins (Jamie Sheridan, Shannon’s Deal) manages to throw their way. With the able legal assistance from no-nonsense District Attorney Ron Carver (Courtney B. Vance, The Tuskegee Airmen), the squad quickly gets down to cases using all the psychological tools at their disposal to get inside the very minds of the city’s most dangerous criminals in this compelling dramatic series from renowned producer Dick Wolf.
This hard-hitting and emotional companion series from the popular Law & Order franchise chronicles the exciting cases of the elite Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department. Created by Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit follows the exploits of Det. Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni, OZ), a seasoned, seen-it-all veteran of the unit and his capable partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay, NBC’s ER), as they try to crack the city’s most heinous crimes. Directing their intense efforts is Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek, reprising his Law & Order role), who’s tough but supportive approach guides the entire squad - which includes Detectives John Munch (Richard Belzer) and D.A. Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March) and forensic psychiatrist George Huang (B.D. Wong) - through the dangerous challenges they face every day.
The only thing crazier than the crimes committed daily on the streets of San Francisco is the detective assigned to solve them. Golden Globe-winning actor Tony Shaloub (Men in Black, Spy Kids) stars as the brilliant but neurotic Adrian Monk, a top homicide investigator who was suspended from the force four years ago when his unusual behavior made him unfit for duty. Never one to give up, he’s been busy battling his obsessive-compulsive disorder ever since with help from Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram, A League of Their Own) a mystery-loving practical nurse who’s become an unlikely Dr. Watson to Monk’s Sherlock Holmes. And now that a string of unsolved murders involving a local political candidate has forced his former boss Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine, Silence of the Lambs) to call him in, this defective detective is back fighting crime while fighting back his abnormal fears of germs, cars, heights, crowds, and virtually everything else known to man.
