Tyrel trailer: Jason Mitchell tries to deal with a white nightmare
Jason Mitchell was one of the few highlights in the recent Superfly reboot misfire and here he leads a film that has already lazily been labelled this year's Get Out. Although not a horror, Tyrel looks at race relations and the way toxic white masculinity can manifest itself, particularly in larger groups. The film picked up mostly positive reviews at this year's Sundance where is was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize. Check out the trailer for Tyrel above to see more.
Tyler joins his friend on a trip to the Catskills for a weekend birthday party with several people he doesn't know. As soon as they get there, it's clear that (1) he's the only black guy, and (2) it's going to be a weekend of heavy drinking. Although Tyler is welcomed, he can't help but feel uneasy in "Whitesville." The combination of all the testosterone and alcohol starts to get out of hand, and Tyler's precarious situation starts to feel like a nightmare.
Sebastián Silva writes and directs and once again teams up with Michael Cera, with the rest of the cast featuring Caleb Landry Jones, Christopher Abbott, Ann Dowd, Roddy Bottum and the late Reg E. Cathey.
Tyrel gets a US release on December 5th, no news yet on if it will be coming to the UK next year.
