If Beale Street Could Talk trailer: The official trailer for Barry Jenkins' new film
At the start of last month Barry Jenkins revealed a teaser look at his new film, If Beale Street Could Talk, on the birthday of James Baldwin. Jenkins' film is based on Baldwin's 1974 novel of the same name, so releasing the footage on that day mades complete sense. The film is also set to play at this year's London Film Festival. The story is told through the eyes of Tish, a nineteen-year-old girl, in love with Fonny, a young sculptor who is the father of her child. Tish and Fonny have pledged to get married, but Fonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. Their families set out to clear his name, and as they face an uncertain future, the young lovers experience a kaleidoscope of emotions–affection, despair, and hope.
Jenkins will be writing and directing, with the cast starring Stephan James, Kiki Layne, Regina King, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Brian Tyree Henry, Pedro Pascal, Ed Skrein and Dave Franco.
If Beale Street Could Talk opens in the UK on January 19th 2019.
