The Two Towers release dates and first details

New Line Home Cinema have finally announced the Region 1 DVD release of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in its Theatrical Cut form. Arriving on August 26th in both Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen editions the info released so far suggests we shall find the following features on these 2-disc sets...

  • Theatrical Cut in either Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen aspect ratios
  • DD5.1 Audio
  • “On the Set—The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” documentary
  • “Return to Middle-earth” documentary
  • Eight featurettes looking at the people and places in Middle-earth
  • 10-minute behind-the-scenes sneak preview of the third installment in the trilogy
  • Sean Astin's short film "The Long and Short of It"
  • A documentary on the making of the short film
  • The Gollum's Song music video by Emiliana Torrini
  • Previews of the "Return of the King" video game and the Special Extended DVD Edition of The Two Towers
  • And more!
Retail on these editions will be $29.95 each.

Also confirmed is the extended 4-disc DVD release of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers that will arrive on November 18th. This extended cut is expected to be 43-minutes longer (details here) and should mimic last years Extended Edition of Fellowship of the Ring by offering the film in Anamorphic Widescreen with DD5.1 and DTS audio. Alongside this high quality presentation spread across two of the discs you should expect a wealth of exclusive bonus material not present on the Theatrical Cut release including a feature length Audio Commentary (or four).
