What They Had trailer: Hilary Swank and Michael Shannon star in weepy alzheimer's story

It's hard to think of many films starring Hilary Swank after the success of Million Dollar Baby but What They Had sees her pair up with Michael Shannon to play a brother and sister attempting to deal with a mother suffering with Alzheimer's. The film played at Sundance earlier in the year and while it didn't make a whole lot of noise, the few critics that did write about it did so positively. Watch the trailer for What They Had above.

What They Had focuses on a family in crisis. Bridget (Hilary Swank) returns home to Chicago where her brother (Michael Shannon) is trying to deal with their ailing mother (Blythe Danner) who’s suffering with Alzheimer’s and her father’s (Robert Forster) reluctance to let go of their life together.

Elizabeth Chomko writes and directs her first film, with the cast also featuring Taissa Farmiga and Josh Lucas.

What They Had arrives in US theatres on October 12th, with no date scheduled for the UK just yet.
