The Hate U Give trailer: First look at the adaptation of Angie Thomas' young adult novel

Angie Thomas' bestselling novel The Hate U Give has been in production for a while and 20th Century Fox dropped the first trailer for the film during last night's BET Awards. Despite being targeted to a younger audience it deals with some big themes affecting black people of all ages in America. Take a look at the trailer for The Hate U Give above to see what you think.

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighbourhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

George Tillman Jr. (Notorious, Faster) directs, with Amandla Stenberg taking the role of Starr and Regina Hall, KJ Apa, Sabrina Carpenter, Common, Anthony Mackie, and Issa Rae all co-starring.

The Hate U Give comes to UK cinemas on November 2nd 2018.
