Blaze trailer: Ethan Hawke directs the biography of country singer Blaze Foley
With a great performance already in the bag in First Reformed, Ethan Hawke's third film behind the camera, Blaze, is also gearing up for release later in the year. Reviews so far have been unanimously positive and lead actor, Ben Dickey, picked up the Special Jury Award for Achievement in Acting at Sundance earlier in the year. Musician Blaze Foley isn't a name too widely known outside of the Texas outlaw music movement but that will probably end up benefiting the film. Watch the trailer for Blaze above to get a first look.
Hawke weaves together three different periods of time, braiding re-imagined versions of Blaze’s past, present and future. The different strands explore his love affair with Sybil Rosen (Alia Shawkat); his last, dark night on earth; and the impact of his songs and his death had on his fans, friends, and foes. The storyline terminates in a bitter sweet ending that acknowledges Blaze’s profound highs and lows, as well as the impressions he made on the people who shared his journey.
Hawke co-wrote the script with Sybil Rosen, with a cast also featuring Charles Adams, Edgar Arreola, Charles Barber and Martin Bats Bradford.
Blaze is released mid-August in the US, but no news yet on a UK date.
