This Week's UK Cinema Releases

Week Commencing June 18th 2018

With Ocean's 8 releasing today it is a very quiet week for releases with only a handful of smaller films hitting screens come Friday. In The Fade is a German language film with a strong lead performance from Diana Kruger and Paul Wright's (For Those in Peril) archived based Arcadia also gets a release. Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat does exactly what it says on the tin and Alex Lawther stars alongside Bette Midler in Freak Show. Anna Faris stars in Overboard and lastly British indie film Kissing Candice also lands on a select number of screens.





Arcadia

From the earliest days of movie-making to the present day, through rare and unseen footage, we see the changing relationship the British have with their land. From images of local celebrations and festivals to agricultural practices through the seasons, village life and lost crafts.





Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat

Exploring the pre-fame years of the celebrated American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and how New York City, its people, and its tectonically shifting arts culture of the late 1970s and '80s shaped his vision.





Freak Show

Starring: Alex Lawther, Bette Midler, Abigail Breslin, AnnaSophia Robb, John McEnroe

Follows the story of teenager Billy Bloom who, despite attending an ultra conservative high school, makes the decision to run for homecoming queen.





In The Fade

Katja's life collapses after the death of her husband and son in a bomb attack. After a time of mourning and injustice, Katja seeks revenge.





Kissing Candice

Starring: Ann Skelly, Ryan Lincoln, Conall Keating

17-year-old Candice longs to escape her seaside town and finds solace in her imagination. When her disillusionment calcifies into an obsession with a troubled stranger, she becomes entangled with a dangerous local gang.





Overboard



Director: Rob Greenberg
Starring: Anna Faris, Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria

A spoiled, yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee.
